Building our city’s future from the start
First 8 Memphis is a new nonprofit devoted to serving Shelby County’s children 0-8 and their families through high-quality early childhood programs. Our data-driven early childhood system aligns home visitation, childcare, pre-K, and K-3rd programs to prepare children for success in school and life.
Over the past four years, Seeding Success has worked with local and national experts to establish First 8 Memphis, a new support for early childhood organizations and families. We believe that investing in early childhood programs presents one of Shelby County’s best opportunities for a brighter future.
Our mission is to support at-risk families with comprehensive programs that prepare children for kindergarten readiness, third-grade literacy, and beyond.
Our vision is to prepare 90% of children to be kindergarten ready and 90% of 3rd-grade children to be reading on grade-level by 2025.
We believe that government, community, and philanthropy can work together to help close the opportunity gap. By making need-based, high-quality programs available to every child that qualifies, we can improve economic mobility and help mitigate the negative effects of systematic poverty for the majority of our community’s most vulnerable families.
