F8M Spotlight: Pre-K Success in Memphis and Shelby County

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and its many obstacles to early learning, Pre-K students in Memphis and Shelby County, TN are achieving strong Pre-K literacy skill levels and rates of Kindergarten readiness.

In 2019, First 8 Memphis has partnered with Community Outcomes Fund at Maycomb Capital, City of Memphis, Shelby County, and the Urban Child Institute to support, coordinate, and administer funding for a comprehensive, universal needs-based Pre-K program in Memphis and Shelby County.

To spotlight the success of F8M over the past three years, Maycomb created a video to share the stories of local leaders, parents, teachers, students, and the incredible efforts of our partners.

If you're curious to learn more about Maycomb's investment, find the detailed fact sheet available on their website. Or, read an interview between Dr. Kandace Thomas, Executive Director of First 8 Memphis, and Simone Gross, Maycomb's Director of Investments, about how our partnership maintained focus on student achievement during COVID-19.
