From Vision to Impact: Dr. Kandace Thomas Named 2026 Black History Month Honoree by County Commission
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Shelby County Commissioners, that we do hereby HONOR DR. KANDACE THOMAS for her VISIONARY LEADERSHIP, TRANSFORMATIVE SERVICE, and UNWAVERING COMMITMENT to the WELL-BEING AND SUCCESS OF YOUNG CHILDREN and families in our great county, of Shelby, TN.
On Monday, February 23, 2026, our Executive Director, Dr. Kandace Thomas, was named a 2026 Black History Month Honoree by the Shelby County Commission. The recognition was presented by Commissioner Michael Whaley.
This moment is a meaningful acknowledgment of Dr. Thomas’ successful leadership and commitment to advancing early care and education. Dr. Thomas reflects the excellence, resilience, and impact we celebrate during Black History Month. Through bold leadership and vision, she continues to champion opportunities that ensure every child has a strong start.
We are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition. Thank you to Board Member, Dr. Alicia Norman for accepting the honor in Kandace's absence.
